Red-tailed hawk

Curated quiet sailing: red-tailed hawk above the field every afternoon. What does he see that I can’t see from my low place? How does he read the field from the wire and lean into air and let go like that? How can he be so secure in deep knowing that he will be fed tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow? I wish he would tell me. I guess he’s been doing that all this time. “A red-tailed hawk writes songs across the sky. There’s music in the water flowing by. And you can hear a song each time the wind sighs in the golden rolling hills of California.” —Kate Wolf
