Blog Jam 1: Why some birds don't sing
They have heard the morning news from the neighbors and are depressed. They are "too busy." They "used to do that music-y thing." Now they "have jobs." They were told by one teacherbird in 6th grade they couldn't "carry a tune in a buttercup." They recall this with bitterness, though that teacher has long since flown the coop. They "can't sing like a wood thrush, so why try?" Sometimes at night when the wind is still, they try out a quick, soft tune--just a measure--when they think nobody like me is listening.
