Why skunks make a stink

<p>Long ago, in the farthest reaches of the basement library stacks of history, a small and lovely creature crossed over a creek. With its sweet eyes and disposition, it was deeply valued, insofar as it was captured and jailed as a pet, crammed into a stuffy, indoor space, and made to do tricks on its hindquarters in order to eat. </p>
